In general, especially now that we are offering very fast internet speeds, we want all WiFi Networks security to be set to WPA2-PSK with AES encryption.
We do not want to use any other level of security unless absolutely necessary. WPA, WEP, and WPA/WPA2 Mixed Mode AES/TKIP, or any TKIP will slow down the WiFi network link even for newer devices.
If the customers have older devices we can set the security level to WPA/WPA2 Mixed Mode and inform them that the older devices will slow down the WiFi Network. Airtime Fairness should also be turned on for 2.4Ghz networks where available when older devices, such as 802.11g, are in use. Note: Any router will slow the WiFI network down to 54Mbps (or maybe 72Mbps) if WPA or TKIP is enabled in any combination.
Currently in CC+ all 844Es are defaulting to WAP/WPA2 AES/TKIP and I am working on proposing changing this to WPA2-PSK with AES across the board and if everyone in Hay Inside Tech agrees we will look into making that change. Then if customers call in with slower devices we can change to the older security levels and educate the customers as needed.
In the mean time before we make any changes if customers are getting slower download speeds over WiFi please be sure to change security to WPA2-PSK with AES as one of the troubleshooting steps.
