Can Modem Software Cause CVs/ECs? Sometimes, but seen rarely.

If a modem’s software or config file is corrupt, it can cause CVs/ECs to show on the DSL Performance.   Usually you will see in the history that it all of a sudden just got really bad.   Or it happened after a power flicker.    Usually when this happens the CVs/ECs are coming in regularly in every 15 minute period.

To fix it, or be sure the modem software is good follow these steps.  Assuming rebooting has been done already and there was no change in CVs/ECs.

1) Reload the standard config file needed for this modem provisioning.

2) Reload the software image onto the modem.  Even if it’s the same version.

3) Reprogram the customer’s PPPoE and WiFi settings and adjust anything else necessary.  Being sure the Management TR-069 is using the proper PPP interface for communication (this is done by default  when using standard config files unless you change WAN services)

4) Check the DSL Performance.  If CVs/ECs are now gone completely in the latest 15 minute period you should be good. If not, then it’s not the software/config file being corrupt.
