This is just a friendly reminder regarding testing for faster speeds. To get close to 100Mbps users will need to be either Hardwired or using 5GHz. Some 2.5Ghz Wireless N devices will get close too, but they usually will be lower.
If a hardwired computer is not getting full speed be sure to have the Task Manager up so you can monitor CPU usage. If the CPU usage spikes up near or to 100% speeds will be slower due to the devices limitations. IE: today we had someone with hard wired Intel Celeron 1.8Ghz PC and while watching the CPU usage while running a speed test we saw Avast kick in and between Chrome and Avast the CPU was at 100%. We disabled Avast temporarily and we saw higher speeds as the CPU did not max out.
Another important thing to remember is CPE routers could cause bottlenecks for some reason. Have a customer hardwire direct to the cable modem and test whith their CPE router bypassed. If speeds are good then they can either get a Calix 844E router from us or look into the issue with their own router on their own.
If a customer doesn’t have a router from us they can get a Calix 844E at no additional cost. Just escalate a ticket to repair if they need one. If they want their own router that is fine as well but they will mostly be responsible for it and the WiFi from it.
