FTTH WiFi Range
Sometimes during a FTTH install we have to move the point of the WiFi signal. If it’s built into a Gigacenter ONT it will be usually moved to the basement. In many cases the WiFi range is fine. Installers do a check to see how the range is. If they find an AP is needed they put it in during the install.
Other times the WiFi range seems fine but after the customer uses it further they find it is inadequate and an AP will be needed.
So if a customer calls in with WiFi range issues please ask them to call the front desk (519-236-4333) during business hours to schedule an Access Point Installation. No need to mention anything about costs as it is the dispatched technician that will determine and convey the costs to the customer once they see the situation on site.
A ticket can be created and closed for your troubleshooting.
Additional AP
If a customer needs additional APs in general for some WiFi shadowed area in the house, such as a bedroom, or their deck/porch, we can look into it but in many of these cases the AP will be $60 and a potential wiring change per AP may also apply. It is up to the technician’s discretion when they investigate on site. The dispatched technician will explain what they will need to attain their aim of better WiFi coverage in/outside the house.
